Coach Charles Sharper built his strong foundation to serve children and their families as an elementary school teacher, athletic coach and youth motivator. Coach Sharper is now widely recognized as one of Atlanta’s noted voices in the area of youth development.
A Detroit, Michigan native, Coach obtained a Secondary Education degree from Owens Community College in Ohio. He joined the Eastern Michigan University Men’s Basketball Team in 1998 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Communications. After EMU, Charles joined the coaching staff of the Hampton University Men’s Basketball program and became a vital hand in preparing the team to win the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship, moving forward to defeat Iowa State University, (then ranked 9th) in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament.
Soon after, Coach Sharper resigned to back to elementary education and to focus on pursuing his own goals of becoming an asset to the community around him. He founded Healthy Youth USA in 2004 and is currently the Executive Director of The Healthy Youth USA Foundation. He recently obtained his certification in Nonprofit Organization Management from the Georgia Center for Nonprofits and is a certified Child care Learning Center director recognized by Georgia’s Department of Early Care and Learning. He is also excited to begin his term to serve on Woodland Charter Elementary’s Governance Council this fall for the 2016-17 school year.
Coach Sharper strives to continuously promote youth fitness and health as a lifestyle beyond sports. He truly lives and aspires to promote his passion of family through multiple media vehicles, passing on his personal mantra and positive message that “Family is not an important thing, it’s the only thing”.
